A walk with Anne round Loch Kernsary (6.8 miles)

Another day of the October holiday with a good forecast for the west so Anne and I headed for Poolewe. We had done this walk before with Mairi but now its just Derby and Joan.

It also gave a chance to take my £380 Ka for a wee run having just past its MOT!

We got to Poolewe about 11.15 after a beautiful journey through. We had stopped at Achnasheen for a wee break. So we got our wellies on and started our walk. It was cold! Here, leaving my nice wee Ka. Mairi claims it to be her Ka!

We followed the River Ewe. This is a lovely walk along very good tracks. Still dry despite the rain of the last few days.

Some of the reflections on the water were just lovely – the river is very wide here. The day was very calm just now.

And came to the entrance to the Inveran Estate

And then came to the entrance to the Letterewe Estate. It is tremendous that there is such access onto estate land now.

At 12.25 we reached Loch Kernsary where we stopped for our lunch. The sun was feeling warm now and there is some snow on the hills. This is one of the joys of being out in the countryside.

Anne enjoying her picnic.

We moved onto Kernsary itself and the turned north-west and crossed the footbridge leading to the boggy path down the side of the loch.

The views as you go down the loch are stunning as you look back. Here are a lot of pictures taken as we moved down the loch.

Poolewe is coming back into view

And we’ve reached Poolewe again.

We got back to the car at about 2: 20 and headed home stopping at Aultbea for an icecream. We just took our time enjoying the scenery. The rain came on about Dundonnell which was kind of satisfying – to be in the best part with the best weather! We then went onto Dingwall by the Ullapool road and had our tea at the Wimpy. A lovely day.
