A walk round Redcastle (5.4 miles).

Anne, Mairi and myself went for a walk round Redcastle.

We picked up Mairi at 9.00 and drove over in my noisy Fusion to Redcastle. We had walked from Charleston to Redcastle earlier in the year and wanted to explore. It was a very crisp winter’s morning.

The castle has a bit of atmosphere. A little information can be had here.

Looking over the Beauly Firth.

The track was very easy going but it was a good thing we had wellies on.

I think this is an old Anderson Shelter from WW II.

We climbed up and missed our intended track so we stopped and had something to eat.

We backtracked and found our track.

This looped round and took us back to Redcastle.

We followed the road from the village to where it meets the busier main road to Muir of Ord. We passed this old well.

And then Killearnan Parish Church. This was the famous Dr. Kennedy of Dingwall’s fathers church (John Kennedy). This link will explain.

The rain started so we headed back as quickly as we could. This started to thaw the snow. Only in Scotland can you get such extremes of weather in winter!

It was good to get back to the car. We headed home.
