A scooter journey round Loch Ness (116 miles).
I just love going out on my scooter around the North. Around 100 miles is a nice distance, you don’t get tired. I thought I’d go round Loch Ness and try and get a wee bit of road I have not been on.
I left home at roughly 10.30 heading over the Cromarty Bridge and over the Black Isle to Beauly. This is taken beyond Culbokie. The mountain is Ben Wyvis and it is clear of cloud today.

Looking West.

After Beauly I went about 2 miles beyond Brockie’s Corner and took the road to Easter Moniack. This was a new road to me. I followed it out to Foxhole. This is before Foxhole. It doesn’t show in the photo but the field above the house to the right was blue with bluebells.

A wee bit further along.

Looking West.

At the junction beyond Foxhole, to Abriachan which is on Loch Ness side. It is almost 1000 feet up here.

Loch Laide.

And coming down to Abriachan, Loch Ness starts to show.

The bluebells are amazing just now.

Once on the Loch Ness road (the A82) I stopped at a parking place and took a tortuous route down to the loch to get some photos.

This is just beyond Drumnadrochit but before Urquhart Castle.

I followed the road South West to Fort Augustus. The traffic was heavy with all the holiday vehicles. Camper vans a plenty. I hate camper vans! This is where the Caledonian Canal enters Loch Ness.

Fort Augustus Abbey.

Once out of Fort Augustus and onto the road to Dores, this is the end of Loch Ness.

I was heading North east now. I stopped after a lot of climbing at Loch Tarff and had my lunch sitting beside it. I was quite cold. I wore my leather jacket and no extra clothes today as the forecast was for 17°C today but it was very windy. When the sun came out a wee bit later it was grand. I have stopped by Loch Tarff a few times.

Not far from my lunch spot were these geese. There were wee baby ones. One is just showing.

I then pushed on to the top to Suidhe Chuimein where there is quite a view.

I had to stop on the way down to Foyers due to being an old man, by this lovely river

Might as well take some nice pictures of wild flowers.

This is just beyond Foyers.

Looking across Loch Ness towards to Urquhart Bay. Drumnadrochit is hidden. Its not long since I had passed along there.

You can just make out the castle.

And finally at Dores, the other end of Loch Ness.

I went round Inverness and picked up petrol at ASDA. I went over the Black Isle branching off to go by Drumsmittal. This is just below the school. My old school.

I went out to Munlochy and took the Fortrose road branching off to Suddie where my MacIntosh ancestors are buried. I stopped here to have some refreshments – a mint biscuit and a can of Pepsi Max. I sat on my great, great, great grandfather’s memorial stone. It is a flat stone.

Three MacIntosh graves are showing here.

The bluebells on the Suddie road.

I crossed over by Mount Eagle and down to the Cromarty Bridge. Just beyond the bridge I turned onto the Foulis road. I opened the gates to get my scooter across the railway when 3 large bikes came by and straight over. They crossed, never acknowledged me, and never offered to close the gates. Good one guys. You be as rude as you like.

It was then on through Evanton, up the Struie road and home to Contullich. I arrived home at about 3.50. Another great day.
