A walk with Charlie to Loch Morie and back (16.1 miles).
My son, Charlie, asked me to go for a walk today. A week today I am to have a radical prostatectomy in Aberdeen. Today I am fit and strong. A week today I will be weak and struggling. So this day was a special blessing.
Charlie came to our house for 10.00 am and we had something to eat before leaving around 10.25 am. It was bright but there was a very cold wind and we had not taken gloves. I got a bit chilled. We just kept walking, apart from toilet stops, till we reached the loch. We have been here often and it is beautiful.

We stopped about 12.40 for a long rest by the loch. We ate our lunch picnic. We were in the shelter of some bushes and it was very pleasant. We walked a little bit further up the loch to try and make the distance a nice round 15 miles. We then saw a nearby spit of land and decided to go to it. Then we went a bit further to make the walk a nice round 16 miles. That was my fault, I’m a bit obsessive.

Carn Chuinneag which I took the boys to on a camping trip when they were younger is showing beyond the head of the loch.

Then we headed back. We stopped for a rest at the fishing beat by the Averon River before Ballavoulen where the track joins the tarred road.
We then stopped by the side of the road at Easter Ballone and had another wee picnic.
