Craig Dunain to Blackfold (6.0 miles).
Anne and I did the section from Blackfold to Abriachan last Friday. The walk today was to join from Craig Dunain that we had walked to on the 26th December ’23 to Blackfold. The blue post near the pylon was our marker. We do these walks there and back so some times we start backwards! So today it was the return journey that took us in the right direction, if we consider us doing the Great Glen Way from Inverness to Fort William.
The car park at Blackfold is not marked. It is a real climb in the car to get to it. We had to drive over to Inverness and then come out on the Drumnadrochit road. The road cuts up to the right before Dochgarroch. We left the car at 9.50.

This is the gate we reached last week,

There has been a lot of rain this week and though the path was fantastic it was quite muddy in places.

After a mile or so we stopped to have our mid-morning snack.

It was a very cold day but when the sun shone it was lovely. I had gloves on for the whole walk.

Where the forest was cleared for the power lines we got a great view to the North. That is Ben Wyvis ahead.

Fyrish must be in some of these distant hills.

Not long after this we met a very nice young man who worked on the Great Glen Way for Highland Council. He was clearing a ditch. He normally works in an office and was delighted to be doing a manual job in the fresh air.

We reached the pylon near the blue post.

Beyond Anne at the turn in the path is the blue post we reached on Boxing Day last year.

So a small section of the Great Glen Way completed. The return journey is proceeding in the right direction (like last week). We got back to the car at 12.05. We went into Inverness and met Mairi at McDonalds at Inshes for lunch. That wasn’t planned but she was in Inverness visiting friends. A lovely surprise. So another small section of the Great Glen Way completed.
So now we have done
