A scooter run to West Sutherland (172 miles).

I was wanting to get out on two wheels before my forthcoming surgery. I contacted Billy and he was up for a run but not too long. So we decided to go over to Lochinver.

I headed up over the Struie and took the road down to Edderton. I went into Tain to purchase a wee picnic at Home Bargains. It is all healthy stuff.

Crossing the Dornoch Firth by the bridge I then headed by Cuthill into Dornoch and onto Bill’s place.

We headed off going out to the Mound by the Embo road. This is at Skelbo looking out over Loch Fleet and then Ben Bhraggie beyond. Golspie, my birthplace, is at the foot of Ben Bhraggie which is well known for the monument to the Duke of Sutherland on its summit, easily visible in the photo.

Looking up Loch Fleet.

Looking down Loch Fleet.

We went through Rogart and then on to Lairg. We stopped at Costcutter for Billy to buy some sweeties.

Loch Shin.

We took the back road to Rosehall and then headed on the Lochinver road. We had a stop at Rosehall to eat and I think we talked for nearly an hour. This is coming to Loch Assynt. You can just make out the remains of Ardvreck Castle.

A bit further on we stopped by Loch Assynt.

We came to Lochinver and both filled our scooters up with petrol. That price was a lot better than expected for out here in the sticks.

I took this photo from the filling station as it shows the old manse where we stayed for many a happy holiday. It is the old large brown house at top centre.

We took the amazing road from Lochinver to Inverpolly and stopped at Inverkirkaig for our lunch. I was a bit cold at this point.

We didn’t look much like each other in the years gone by but now there is no denying we are brothers!

This road has stunning views. Cul Mor, Cul Beag and Stac Pollaidh.

A wee bit further on we could see Suilven in the cloud.

We came round to Elphin and then rejoined our outward route at Ledmore. A bit further on looking back to Canisp and Suilven across Loch Borralan.

We then pushed on and before Rosehall branched onto the Culrain road at Inveroykel. We had to stop at the Bailey bridge. We had a wee picnic here.

We came down to Culrain and Ardgay and then came up over the Struie. We parted at the viewpoint looking to the Dornoch Firth.

I zoomed home. This was really a lovely day. There is nothing like being out on two wheels whether scooter or a motor bike. It was great to have the company of my brother.
