A walk from the ford at the Doll to Loch Brora (6.0 miles).

The day had a good if very cold forecast but for no more snow. We have had quite a fall this week and it has been extremely cold. Only in Scotland could I be at Loch Brora on Thursday last week with the temperature in double figures and today the temperature was barely above freezing!

We came North and stopped in Golspie to eat at ‘Poppies’. It is a nice place to stop.

Then we moved on to the Doll turning off before Brora. We parked up the hill before the ford. My Uncle Hugh (Gunn) came from the Doll but I am not sure where. The snow here was a lot less than with us at Contullich. There is the bridge and ford.

I had noticed the wee path last week and this is Anne about to head onto it.

Finally reaching the loch.

We came up onto the road and walked about a mile and a half further up the loch.

We just turned and came back down.

I noticed a cross on the island. It must be a grave.

We came back down to where we had joined the road. There is an area here which once was a car park, now blocked off with large stones. We sat on a large stone and ate our picnic. we nearly froze! We did not follow the path back but took the road. This is where you turn back to the ford.

Another grand walk on a bracing day.
