A from Nairn to Whiteness Fishing Bothy and back (11.0 miles).
This was Mairi’s treat for us to celebrate Anne’s birthday.
Mairi collected us in the early morning and drove us out to Nairn. We went to a few shops and then had a cake to eat at Ashers. She then drove us down to the Links where we parked and started our walk at 10.15.

It was very cold but a stunning day. Just look at how clear the hills in the North are.

Looking West, the direction we are to go.

We followed the shore out of the town and then went beside the golf course. We cut back up a very unclear path across the golf course.

This took us to Altonburn Road which we followed to its end and then followed a track taking us to this old ice house.

Our indistinct path then went behind the dunes.

The bothy at Whiteness showing.

Looking back to Nairn which looks very far away.

We reached the bothy at 12.30 having walked 5.8 miles.

We had our lunch sheltered at the end of the bothy. It was very pleasant out of the wind and in the sunshine. Thanks Mairi for the picnic.

This awful harbour is being constructed just over the water from the bothy. Can nothing be left alone? I am sick of all the development in the Highlands.

Then it was time to head back.

We took a much clearer track on the way back and on reaching the golf course followed streets back to the Links rather than follow the shore. This is a jet heading to Dalcross Airport.

We arrived back at the car at 2.35 knowing we had a good walk. Mairi then drove us back home. Just a lovely day.
