A walk from Banff to Bridge of Alvah and around the town (6.6 miles).

This was the last day of our holiday. Anne found this walk on the WalkHighlands website. We took the 35 bus from Portknockie to Banff where we did this wonderful walk.

We got off the bus at the Macduff end of town before it turns back into the lower part of Banff. This is taken of Banff Parish Church having just got off the bus. We went to the lovely wee baker just about across from it to buy a Scotch pie and sausage roll for lunch. The lady, the baker’s wife, was extremely pleasant.

We went to look at Duff House which is a most impressive building.

We struggled to see what the instructions on the WalkHighlands App was meaning but eventually found our way past the rugby club and public toilet.

We came to the Marr Gates.

And then the Ice House.

A friendly wee robin posed for me just below the ice house.

The River Deveron. It flows through Huntly and Turriff following a rather torturous route across Aberdeen-shire.

We then came to the mausoleum, built by the second Earl of Fife. It is a most interesting walk.

At the tree shown in the poor photo above we turned down to the Bridge of Alvah.

The Deveron really widens here.

We sat on the parapet at the end of the bridge to eat our lunch.

The track then turns back towards Banff and we passed Moncoffer House.

Starting to get nearer Banff.

The route goes through the Macduff Distillery.

It is quite a bridge that takes the traffic over the Deveron. You have to be careful as a pedestrian. Last year I was knocked by a bus even though I was walking on the pavement!

You can clearly see the Macduff Parish Church, a most imposing building high up as you go into Macduff.

We went round the shops. I got some tools and a small bottle of Irn Bru at the Spotty Bag Shop. We caught the bus at the town centre but had something to eat before the bus came. Banff has beautiful architecture, it is such a pity that it is so run down.

The 35 bus took us back to Portknockie. This was a super walk and a super day if a bit colder.
