My first proper run on the ZSB (84 miles).

I purchased this wee bike, a 2016 Lexmotto ZSB, on 6th February but have had it on SORN as it had no MOT or insurance. I sold the scooter and this wee bike is taking its place. The scooter’s insurance was transferred to the ZSB. I have taken it on a couple of (illegal) test runs up our road after doing work on the carburettor. The pilot jet needed a good clean but the main thing that contributed to good running was to drill a tiny hole in the petrol cap. The bike would cut out after a mile or so due to a vacuum building up in the tank. I had already cancelled an MOT over a week ago because of it cutting out.

Today was MOT day and I headed to Muir of Ord, to the Muir MOT Centre, where I now get the MOTs for my bikes done.

I left home at 8.50 to get to the test station for ny appointment at 9.30. The test was completed before 10.00. It passed with no advisories which was great relief. Seeing it had passed I decided to take it for a wee run and go up Strathconon.

I went into Beauly to the Jet filling station as it has the best price for E10 petrol in the area. This Google Street view is older as today the price per litre of E10 petrol was 130.9!

Then I headed into Muir of Ord itself and went to the new COOP to get supplies for my wee trip. I was shocked at the cost. An individual packet of crisps is now £1.20! I took West Road, the A832, out of Muir of Ord and turned left at the distillery. A short distance up this road I stopped to eat a little and just to have a break after all the excitement. It really is exciting to be driving a “new” bike.

I purchased an older ZSB as they have a carburettor. The newer ones have electronic fuel injection and I can well do without the complications they have when they go wrong. There is nothing like a good old carb. This is a sweet little bike, very light and a joy to drive. However, it is nothing like as comfortable as the old scooter, but it was exceptional. I purchased it down in Alness and found out it was from an ex-pupil!

I headed on up the road onto Fairburn. This is near Fairburn looking to Loch Achonachie.

Fairburn House.

I kept motoring on and into Strathconon.

This is quite far up Strathconon at Inverchoran a favourite place.

Not far beyond Inverchoran is Loch Beannacharain.

Just beyond Loch Beannacharain the public road ends at Scardroy.

Scardroy house.

I took this photo a bit further down Strathconon purely as the mountain looked so impressive.

I turned off on the road to Loch Achilty at Meig Dam. Of course I stopped for more photos.

I then continued on to Loch Achilty where I stopped for my lunch.

I did ask the fishermen for permission to take their photo.

At the Eastern end of Loch Achility.

This was taken near Contin, still on the Achilty road. It was supposed to show the bluebells.

It was then on to Strathpeffer and the high road by the Heights of Achterneed to the Neil Gunn memorial.

Looking to Dingwall.

The bluebells are on the way out but they have given a great show this year.

Coming down to Dingwall.

On the whole the day stayed dry but I did go into a couple of very light drizzle showers. They were no problem.

Well that was just great to be out on the ZSB. I’m sure there will be many more runs out on it this summer D.V.
