A walk from Castleton Village, Inverness to Daviot with Mairi (6.3 miles).

We took Mairi on a walk Anne and I had intended doing after a walk from Inshes to Castleton.

We drove over to Inverness meaning to start walking in the late morning but the rain came on and how. We went down to Inshes, did some shopping and then ate our picnic in the car. This was Anne’s advice; wise woman. The rain started to ease so we went back to Castleton to try again. We parked where they seem to be getting ready for more building. How big does Inverness need to be? Castleton is on the southern edge of Milton of Leys.

It was raining as we headed off and we got showers off and on but none were heavy. The broom is quite spectacular just now.

The track was excellent. There was a loop marked with red posts which we did in an anti-clockwise direction. Daviot was a spur off the southern edge of the loop.

That is the Black Isle.

Finally we reached the way down to Daviot; in a rather attractive valley.

The wee church at Daviot, just showing, is very visible as you drive the A9. That is the A9 beyond it. You could hear traffic noise from the A9 for a lot of this walk.

Daviot Primary School.

We made the church the target for the day.

A sad, neglected house

Mairi carried a picnic for us. This is her packing up after we had gorged her picnic.

The walk passes through some beautiful forest.

It got drier and the views better as the afternoon went on. This is looking to the hills of the west.

Ben Wyvis, looking north.

We got back to the car not being too damp. What a lovely walk on the edge on Inverness!
