A walk from Dingwall to Strathpeffer (7.7 miles).

Anne and I have walked the start of the Peffery Way twice on cold winter’s evenings only going as far as Fodderty. Today we completed it going all the way to Strathpeffer Old Station. The photos of the walk today were recorded on the way back from, so going from Strathpeffer to Dingwall.

We started our walk at 9.30 in the morning and it was cold. We even had gloves on. We walked out to beyond Knockbain where there was a seat and we had something to eat. We then kept going till we reached Strathpeffer Old Station at 11.00 and had a wee look round it. It is a lovely old station.

Then we headed back so this is the start of the Peffery Way walking from Strathpeffer.

This beautiful house is just beyond the station.

The edge of Ben Wyvis is just showing with the sun shining on it.

It is a really good path following the old railway line.

Knockfarrel or the Cat’s Back. That will be more obvious later.

Looking up to the Heights of Achterneed, Foddertry and Docherty. Lovely Ross-shire rolling hills.

Beyond this gate for about a quarter of a mile the landowner has not let the Peffery Way Association have access to the land. It is still passable and is rather nice if a bit rougher.

The path changes to look like this.

This lovely old railway bridge is just at the path branching down to Fodderty.

That is why Knockfarrel or Knock Farril is referred to as the Cat’s back.

Even more Cat’s Back like.

It gets a bit industrial as you come back into Dingwall.

Anne likes that old house across the field, which is for sale. A bit big for us old people and we could never afford it. “In my Father’s House are many mansions”.

This is the Dingwall entrance to the Peffery Way.

Anne’s house of dreams.

The Peffery Way is an easy and most beautiful walk. What a lovely way to pass a Saturday morning.
