A circular walk from Little Ferry to Golspie and back (5.2 miles).
Anne and I did this walk last year in October and then we did it later in the year with Mairi and Graham. Mairi takes her old dad for a day out when she delivers Christmas presents in December. Last year she took me to Meikle Ferry on a very wild day. Today the weather was lovely for the time of year, a little windy.
Mairi came for me at 9.00 and she drove us over the Struie to Bonar Bridge and then on to Dornoch where we dropped off the presents. She then took me to Golspie, to ‘Poppies’, where she had a cake and I had a scone. It was all her treat. To my amazement I met my old “boss”, Craig Phillips, who is now depute rector of Golspie Academy. It was nice to see him. I then posted off my Christmas presents and cards. We left Golspie and parked down at Little Ferry. That is a couple of the new houses there.

Ben Bhraggie with its monument in the distance.

We managed to avoid the beach until we reached the Go-Kart racing circuit in Golspie. Not walking on the beach saved a lot of energy. Sand is hard going.

It is not exactly beautiful by the Go-Kart track!

We turned back to go by Loch Fleet to Little Ferry.

It really is quite stunning by Loch Fleet.

Mairi brought a picnic with her which we had at this bench. It was fairly sheltered and we were quite comfortable. A blessed time. What a view out to Princess Cairn (Creag an Amalaidh) while eating. Cousin Martin and I were up it over 50 years ago.

We went by the battlefield to Little Ferry.

We met a nice English man with a beautiful dog, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. That’s a mouthful. It was a beautifully natured dog and very obedient.
Then we came round to Little Ferry.

Then we went back to Mairi’s wee car.

Mairi took me back to her and Graham’s house, in Saltburn, and we had something to eat while watching an episode of “Still Game”. She then took me home. What a spoilt father!
Just a lovely day. Thank you Mairi.
