It’s a Hyosung Aquila GV250. Its a really nice bike, it looks huge but it is a 250! It drives well and has a humungus range – about 300 miles! <br \/><br \/>The weather forecast was great so we decided to go over the Bealach na Ba at Applecross. We did this maybe 35 years ago on the old XS250. The XS250 was Bill’s bike which I bought off him after crashing my CZ250. He then got cars. So Bill had the Aquila and I had my old XS650. <br \/><br \/>Bill came down from Dornoch. We left my house about 10.15 and headed by the Old Evanton Road to Dingwall. Then over to Strathpeffer and Garve. We stopped just beyond Garve. The morning was very hazy and a bit cool. <br \/><br \/>\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3087.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nAt Achnasheen we headed on to Kinlochewe. We stopped for a short while at Loch a Chroisg before heading down Glen Docherty. How this road has changed. It used to be a slow single track road, now its a very fast wide road.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3089.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3090.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3091.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nThen we reached Kinlochewe. I filled up with petrol at the garage and bought a pen for 28p! Bill bought some sort of nut mixture that I wouldn’t give to a guinea pig.<br \/>We then headed for Torridon. What a mountain Liathach is. My cousin Martin and I did Liatahach and Beinn Eighe both on the same day when we were young and foolish Munro baggers. It nearly killed me. We also walked once form Alligin to Kinlochewe and once from Torridon to Achnasheen. Its better to use a motorbike! Here is Liathach and Beinn Eighe. These pictures are taken from near Loch Clair.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3092.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3094.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3097.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3098.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3099.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nWe had our lunch picnic in the Torridon Cemetery!<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3100.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3101.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3102.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nWe stopped a wee bit later to get some photos looking back. The views out to Raasay and Skye began to appear. The day was getting warm, too. This is March!<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3107.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3108.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3109.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3110.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nIt was quite busy in Applecross so we went just beyond to Milton and Loch a’ Mhuilinn. What stillness! What a day!<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3112.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3113.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3114.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3115.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3116.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nAnd here I am contemplating the blessing of a lovely day. Thanks Bill for the photo you so aptly described as ‘an intrepid motorcyclist at well earned rest.’<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/dsc00704.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nThen it was time for the target of the day – going over the Bealach. The Bealach na Ba starts at sea level and climbs straight up to 2053 feet! It is fantastic on a bike. I’ve done on a Jawa 350 and the lovely wee Chinese 125 – Crusader Classic that I owned before this bike, as well as the XS250 with Bill. I’ve done it too on my current XS650 three years ago. The XS650 eats it!<br \/>This is near the top. We met an Orcadian – John, here and he wanted to join us. So we became three.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3117.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3120.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3121.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3122.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3124.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nAnd going down the other side.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3125.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3126.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nThen we got to Lochcarron. Bill and I got petrol here. We also had a bit to eat.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3127.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3128.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3129.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3132.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nWe headed on to Achnashellach and stopped at Inver not far from Achnasheen.<br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3133.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3134.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3135.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3136.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3137.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\n<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hferrier.co.uk\/personal\/2012-03-24-bealach\/100_3138.jpg\" class=\"aligncenter\" \/><br \/><br \/>\r\n\r\nThe next stop was Contin where we parted from John – a nice bloke with rather over rich language!
