Friday 22nd June – period 2 & 3

Gave back marked PPAs 1.1 and 1.2. Did corrections.

Went over Progress test

Started problems on reactants in excess.

Definitions

The limiting reagent is the reactant that is completely used up during the chemical reaction.

The reactant that is in excess is the reactant that is not completely used up during the chemical reaction – there is some of this reactant left over.

Method

Write the balanced chemical equation

Use the balanced equation to determine the mole ratio of the reactants

Compare the available quantities of each reactant to the moles required for complete reaction
