A walk round Loch Morie with Charlie (10.0 miles).

Charlie (aka David, my son) wanted to repeat this walk we did two years ago. This time we did it in reverse, walking from the Boath Road round to Strath Rusdale.

We had to drive to Strath Rusdale and leave my car there. Charlie then drove us round to the top of the Boath road. After all this we started walking at 9.45. It was a stunning day as can be seen from the photos and very hot. This is so different from when we walked it in 2023, also in July, when I had to wear gloves for a while and we had jackets on! When we reached Loch Morie we had something to eat.

It is a plod down (or up?) the loch; it was very wet and boggy in parts.

Meall Mor. It is many years since I have been up there.

Carn Chuinneag is showing with the almost double summit beyond the head of the loch. Hugh, David and myself went there many years ago.

I have taken a photo of the old telegraph poles before and had to take one again. They are part of history.

The lodge at Kildermorie starting to show.

Looking back the way we came.

It was a day for sun-cream and stupid hats! I wore a long sleeved shirt but am trying to avoid having another skin cancer developing. Carts and horses!

Bridge over the Abhainn Toll a’ Choin.

Kildermorie Lodge.

The buildings at Kildermorie are lovely and well maintained.

Charlie and I climbed the steep track above Kildermorie and found a brilliant place to eat shaded by trees but with a view down to the loch. We had a good rest here. We reached this point at 12.20.

This used to be all forest but since it has been cut down there are fantastic views to the head of Loch Morie.

Meall Mor and the Novar Windfarm beyond.

We climbed and then came round to the lovely Loch Bad a’ Bhathaich. The Gaelic names are something else! Our landscape is spoiled by a new windfarm.

Here we have walked round the loch and the road is downhill more or less all the way.

This bridge crosses the Abhainn Glac an t-Seilich. Never ask me to pronounce these names. We had a wee rest here.

We came down to Braentra at the top of Strath Rusdale.

Reaching the car at 2.30.

It was then a case of driving round to Boath to collect Charlie’s car. What a brilliant day. I needed this after the shocking day yesterday when I had to cope with the wee ZSB motorbike having a puncture.
