Saturday 28th February and Tuesday 3rd March 2026
Two runs on the ZSB 125
Over the Struie (32 miles)
I have not been out on the bike in February this year and this the last day of February had a brilliant forecast. It was bitterly cold with frost still lying at the sides of the roads.
I drove up to the Struie Viewpoint and stopped to enjoy the view. Other were making use of the lovely day and there were four cars parked here!

After my wee look around I headed down towards Ardgay. However the bike felt completely different. As soon as you opened the throttle beyond 1/4 open it just died. I didn’t go to Ardgay but at the bottom of the Struie Road turned sharp right to Edderton. I manage to get up the brae to Aultnamain and then limped home at less than 30 miles an hour.
Picnic on Knockfarrel (40 miles)
Since the last trip on Saturday I have changed the carburettor to the new one I’d bought last year. I took it off in December as the bike would not run with it and refitted the original. However I purchased a jet set on AliExpress and have change the jets. It seems to run fine. I fitted a new fuel tap and a new sidestand switch.
I drove to Dingwall vis the Old Evanton Road but came down to the A9 by Foulis Station. I went to Tesco for petrol.

I headed out to Maryburgh and came up the Brahn Road turning off up at the first right on the road to Lochussie and Knockfarrel. I came up to the Knockfarrel car park and walked to the top of Knockfarrel.
This is looking down to Dingwall.

Looking over to all the “Heights”.

Ben Wyvis.

Loch Ussie.

Looking West.

I had my wee picnic sheltering from the wind.

The wee bike can just be made out down below. This is a great time of year to be out. I had the car park and the hill to myself.

Looking to the top of Knockfarrel.

I came down to the Brahn Road and headed towards Contin branching right on the road marked Kinnahaird before Contin. I came through Strathpeffer and turned up to Achterneed. Of course I had to stop at the Neil Gunn Memorial.

The snowdrops are wonderful but they don’t have long left!

I came round the back of Dingwall by Tulloch Castle and onto the Old Evanton Road and then home. How wonderful to be out on two wheels after the winter.
